Slick 50 Story

TO
WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I purchased
a Kenworth Aerodyne - with Detroit 8V92 TT motor - Reg number SX18BF
-from Don forest in Brisbane in April 1986. He had bought the truck
to new and treated the engine with Slick 50 after it had 8,000 kms
and retreated it after it had done 800,000 kms. I purchased it when
it had done over 1, 000,000 (1 million) kms.

When the unit
had done 1,300,000 (1.3million) kms over- heated going through the
Adelaide Hills. It was a warm summer evening. The horton fan failed,
and the motor kept getting hotter and hotter until the radiator
hose burst and it lost all its coolant. This happened on a particularly
bad corner, and being peak traffic I didn't stop immediately but
kept going around the corner until I cold pull off on the side.
We expected some damage - but when the side inspection plates were
removed, there was no sign of any "nipping up," the fan was repaired
and the unit went back on the road.

At 1,400,000
(1.4 million) kms, the motor was retreated.

At 1, 473 000(1473
million)kms. A mechanical failure in which the a cam follower roller
brake broke, meant that the cylinder head had to be removed. My
mechanic, Bruce Donaldson at Cavan Industrial Park, who specialises
in detroit diesels, did the work He was amazed to see the condition
inside the motor. There was no ridge in the bore and in the original
cross-hatchings were still present. He said that it looked like
a motor that had done about 50,000kms.

I
retreated the engine at 1,6000,000 million (1.6 million) kms.

Since I purchased
the vehicle it had been running mainly between Adelaide and Perth
and has now done 1, 8000, 000 (1.8million ) kms. It still hasn't
been rebuilt and it's still running well. I change the oil after
every 25,000 kms. The oil still stays clear on the dipstick until
well after 15,000,000kms, and then it starts to go black. The way
it's going, there doesn't seem to be any reason to why it won't
reach the 2 million kms.

The benefits
of Slick 50 are still amazing us. I can only put the exceptionally
good run we are getting down to the Slick 50 treatment.

Yours sincerely,

JC Elsdon
