Lubricating oil pressure low

Cause   Correction
Low
oil level
Check/replenish
oil.
 
  Check
for a severe external oil leak that could reduce the pressure.
   
Oil
viscosity thin; diluted or wrong specification
Verify
the correct oil is being used. Check for oil dilution. Refer
to Troubleshooting Logic for contaminated lube oil.
   
Malfunctioning
pressure switch/gage
Verify
the pressure switch is functioning correctly.
   
Relief
valve stuck open
Check/replace
valve.
   
Plugged
oil filter
Change
oil filter; review change interval.
   
If
cooler was replaced, shipping plugs left in cooler
Check/remove
shipping plugs.
   
If
replaced, four cylinder lube pump installed ina six cylinder engine.
Verify
that the correct pump is installed.
   
Loose
or missing cup plugs
Check/replace
cup plugs.
   
Suction
tube loose or seal leaking
Check/replace
seal.
   
Worn
lube pump
Check/replace
lube pump.
   
Loose
main bearing cap
Check/install
new bearings and tighten cap.
   
Worn
Bearings
Inspect/replace
bearings; also check/replace piston cooling nozzles.
